✝ Processional Cross ✝ The Christian cross represents the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ and the centrality of redemption. It is a powerful reminder that faith is not meant to divide but to bring people together through dialogue, understanding, and love. Pope Francis speaks of the Church as a place of encounter, where different voices are heard and respected. True dialogue, he teaches, does not mean compromising one’s beliefs but rather opening one’s heart to others in a spirit of fraternity. This vision calls for a Church that reaches out, embraces diversity, and fosters unity. In Catholic tradition, the cross stands at the heart of the Christian message, symbolising Christ’s sacrifice, resurrection, and the promise of new life. The new processional cross is a contemporary, stylised representation of this timeless Christian symbol. Its strong metallic structure reflects the steadfastness of the cross as the foundation of salvation, while the flowing ribbon-like element softens its form, evoking movement, welcome, and embrace. More than a reminder of suffering, this design transforms the cross into a sign of openness, inclusion, and the universal reach of God’s love. The intertwining form suggests that Christianity is not rigid or exclusive but rather a living faith that embraces all—just as Jesus did. From a Marist perspective, the flowing element wrapped around the cross evokes Mary’s presence—gentle, guiding, and always leading towards Christ. Just as she stood faithfully at the foot of the cross, offering strength and love, this design reflects her role as a mother who gathers all into God’s embrace. Mary’s humility and openness inspire the Marist way of life, which emphasises simplicity, presence, and a deep sense of family spirit. Ultimately, this cross is more than just an object—it is a living symbol of faith, Mary’s guiding presence, and the Church’s mission of dialogue. It reminds us that through Christ, all are welcomed, and through Mary, we are led with compassion toward one another. This cross stands as a testament to faith, unity, and the call to love all people in the spirit of Christ.

✝️ Happy St Marcellin Champagnat Day ✝️ we wish all the global Marist community a blessed Feast of St Marcellin. ✝️ The Marist Heart: A Living Tradition of Faith and Community. At the Marist Mother House in France, St Marcellin Champagnat began a tradition of placing the names of his Brothers in a heart locket and entrusting them to Mary. Inspired by this, St Patrick’s Marist College ceremonially places the names of all students and staff in a heart each year, blessed at the Commencement Mass and carried at College events. Graduating students’ names are later moved to a dedicated heart, marking their journey. This tradition began during the Great Jubilee and continues in the 2025 Jubilee Year of Hope. At the centre of our College is the Marist Heart artwork—created by Roger Apte—featuring a large metallic heart with a golden flame symbolising the Sacred Heart of Jesus, surrounded by smaller hearts representing our Marist community. It stands as a living reminder that tradition is not about preserving the past, but keeping the fire of faith alive through love, humility, and service. 🏃🏃‍♀️On Monday, our annual Athletics Carnival took place at Barton Park, marking a highlight on the St Patrick’s Marist College calendar. This much-anticipated event brought together students from all year levels for a vibrant day of competition, showcasing both athleticism and house spirit.🏃🏃‍♀️ 🏃🏃‍♀️A wide range of track and field events were held throughout the day, encouraging participation, teamwork, and sportsmanship. 🏛🏛 As part of their Australians at War: WWI and WWII unit, Year 10 History students have been exploring what life was like for soldiers in the trenches during World War I. To help bring these lessons to life, Mr. Sheteh and Ms. Watters recently combined their classes for a hands-on activity designed to simulate aspects of trench warfare. 💚💛 Students played a modified game of 🏐🏐dodgeball, with cones marking out the trenches and a central area representing “no man’s land.” During the game, students who were hit by a dodgeball were either “injured” or “out.” Injured players could be helped by a "medic" and returned to their team, while others remained in place to reflect the challenges soldiers might have faced.🏐🏐 This fun and interactive activity gave students a chance to better understand the difficult conditions that were part of trench life.💚💛 #stpatricksmaristcollegedundas #cspd2025 #catholicschoolsparramattadiocese #dundas

🏛🏛History Elective has started a new unit called CSI in the Ancient World, focusing on how we use archaeology and DNA to determine theories of the ancient past. As an introduction lesson, the students were each given a slice of a brownie to excavate, with a little slip of paper inside revealing a term or definition. The students then had to match the term with the definition to form their glossary for the unit. 💚💛 This Reconciliation Week 2025, we reflect, renew, and walk together. Inspired by the powerful theme artwork by Kalkadoon woman Bree Buttenshaw, we’re reminded of the resilience of native plants, known for regenerating after fire and thriving through adversity. They symbolise our shared strength and the hope for a future built on respect and unity To honour this spirit of renewal, we’re collecting cans and plastic bottles for recycling, turning small actions into meaningful change. All funds raised will go directly to Marist180, supporting reconciliation efforts and creating fairer opportunities for Indigenous communities. Find out more about Marist180 excellent work here: https://www.marist180.org.au/ Our Take Action Tuesday initiative will also focus on reconciliation with our student leaders, hosting a bingo challenge to complete by the end of the week. The aim is to create a space where students can engage with literature highlighting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures. 💚💛 Recently, our students were privileged to attend the Senior Student Mission Forum at the Marist Hermitage in Mittagong. Joined by peers from Marist schools in Sydney, Canberra, and Brisbane, they connected through faith, friendship, and a shared passion for justice. ✝✝ Inspired by St Oscar Romero and St Marcellin Champagnat, students explored how to find their voice when faced with injustice. They engaged in workshops on fast fashion, equity in education, and overcoming fear. They later led powerful discussions on climate change, gender equality, and homelessness, seeking real, local solutions with empathy and conviction.💚💛 At the closing liturgy, students reflected on the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, choosing one to bring to life in their communities. 💚💛 One of our Year 12 students, Jeremy was asked to speak on a panel at the Catholic Mission conference. This panel was about showcasing student experiences in the interfaith encounter program that our school has been apart of for a number of years. Jeremy spoke about unity in our community and the importance of this despite the differences we see when we meet people different from ourselves. Jeremy also showcased the amazing impact the interfaith encounters program does have on our own school and wider community.
